About the museum
The Venetian Museum is housed in one of the most imposing mansions of the Kastro of Naxos, the Della Rocca-Barozzi tower. During Venetian rule the building served as a military headquarters, and under Ottoman rule as the consulate of Venice. It has belonged to the Della Rocca-Barozzi family since 1704.
The museum operates as a private initiative and presents the family’s collections, with objects dating from 1207 to the present day: vessels, weapons, costumes and paintings. In the basement, ancient architectural elements of the Kastro of Naxos are visible.
The guided tour, which lasts about forty minutes and is given in Greek and English, takes visitors through the rooms of the house: the reception hall, the bedrooms, the dining room, the library, the chapel and the balcony with a view of the harbour. In the garden of the house, the Domus festival with music events has been held from April to October since 1999.
