About the museum
The Balassa Bálint Múzeum is the Esztergom branch institution of the Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum (Hungarian National Museum). It preserves one of the largest collections in the county and deals with the traditions of Esztergom and its surroundings. The museum’s offices, library and storerooms are in a late Baroque building completed in 1774, while the exhibition spaces and the restoration workshops are in the former county hall at Pázmány Péter utca 13.
The permanent exhibition, Esztergom kincsei (“The Treasures of Esztergom”), presents the past of the town. The museum also runs further exhibition sites: the Babits Mihály Emlékház (Babits Mihály Memorial House) in Esztergom and the Slovak heritage house in Pilisszentlélek.
