About the museum
The Mestské múzeum Štúrovo is housed in the old Frankl family house from the 19th century at the end of the pedestrian zone. It opened to the public in May 2004, and the Ministry of Culture registered it in February 2005. Territorially it is a local museum; professionally, it has an ethnographic and local-history focus.
The permanent exhibitions trace the history of Štúrovo and its surroundings from prehistory to the present. A timeline on the walls shows the most important milestones in the history of the town, archaeological finds document the continuous settlement of the area, and the ethnographic exhibition presents folk culture, costumes and utility objects from 150 to 200 years ago.
The museum also includes a gallery of personalities of the town, a room for temporary exhibitions and an open-air exhibition in the courtyard, where tools of rural husbandry and fishing equipment recall the proximity of the rivers.
