About the museum
The folk house museum in Hosszúpályi operates in a building from 1886 that represents the Hungarian house type of the Great Plain, at the initiative of the local history researcher Bődi István. The exterior and furnishings of the house present the living and working conditions of a Great Plain peasant family living in a row of small farmsteads.
The building has three rooms (parlour, kitchen and small room), a reed roof, a porch with columns and a free-standing open chimney. The gable is made of boards, the roof structure is an upper truncated hip roof, and the entrance hall is divided into two parts by a vault. The parlour is heated by a bread oven (búbos kemence), and every room has a rammed earth floor and a whitewashed, plastered ceiling. The rooms are filled with furniture, utensils and decorative objects needed for the daily life of the small peasant family; the small room houses a local history exhibition. The exhibition in the farm building presents tools for animal husbandry and farming.
