About the museum
The cottar’s house on Deák körút, built in the first half of the 19th century, is a listed folk monument, in which the Soós family lived for several generations. The village council bought the building, and the exhibition opened in 1970. The furnishings were gathered together by the villagers, on the initiative of the Roman Catholic parish priest Kozár Gyula. The house was renovated in 2011.
The exhibition presents the traditional material world of the Roman Catholic population of the Galga Valley, largely through the living and housing conditions of a poor peasant family. A separate collection presents the row of wrought-iron gable crosses that decorate the houses.
