About the museum
Over the past centuries Békés County has always played a leading role in Hungarian grain cultivation and processing; the best-quality wheat of the country grew in this region. According to approximate calculations, eight thousand years ago the people of the Körös culture (Körös-kultúra) introduced the cultivation of cereals to the area. The exhibition site follows the history of grain cultivation from the Scythian, Celtic, Sarmatian, Germanic and Avar periods, through the Middle Ages and the Ottoman occupation, to the 19th-century water management and economic developments, and presents the Csaba farmstead.
