About the museum
The Hollóház manufactory was founded in 1777 in Hollóháza, Abaúj County, originally as a glassworks on the estate of the Counts Károlyi. In 1831 Count Károlyi István founded a stoneware factory here; of the more than twenty Hungarian stoneware factories founded in the first half of the 19th century, only Herend and Hollóháza still operate today. Its most important period was the tenancy of Istványi Ferenc, from 1860 to 1902. The factory suffered heavy damage in the Second World War, was nationalised in 1948 and privatised in 1992; in 2013 the state re-established the company. Since 2017 Hollóház porcelain has been a Hungaricum.
The Hollóházi Porcelán Ipartörténeti Kiállítóhely (Hollóház Porcelain Industrial History Exhibition) is located on the factory grounds at Károlyi út 11 and is operated by the Hollóházi Hungarikum Nonprofit Kft. The exhibition has been open to visitors again since 1 March 2026. There are currently no factory visits: the new owner of the manufactory has decided that in future no factory visits can be organised through the industrial history exhibition. During opening hours it is also possible to paint porcelain; the painted piece is fired on request.
