About the museum
The Myšľanské obecné múzeum (Myšľa Municipal Museum) was first solemnly opened on 26 June 1998. It is housed in the monastery building, which dates from the 13th century, and is run by the municipality of Nižná Myšľa.
The museum collects and presents the archaeological and cultural monuments of the region, above all finds from the excavations of an important archaeological site in the village. The archaeological finds come from research by the Archaeological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV). It also presents church history, the history of the religious orders in the region and the history of the village.
Points of interest include remains of a Jesuit library from the 16th to 19th centuries, an exhibition of minerals and rocks, and European unique items, for example a ritual bread 3,700 years old, children's toys, carts and rattles. Visitors can also enter the underground passages, which were originally built by the monks and workers of the monastery and which led as far as the former Skalka quarry; they have not survived in their full length. The museum also offers a virtual 3D tour.
