About the museum
The founder of the collection is István Szemere, who began collecting jugs in 1972. The collection, which initially embraced all kinds of jugs, later became thematic, and in 2011 the couple began writing the Söröskorsó Könyvek (Beer Jug Books), which contain every detail of the collection. In 2018 they decided to set up a separate exhibition venue.
The more than a thousand pieces are grouped according to three aspects – makers, materials and the patterns on the jugs – and placed on illuminated shelving; every exhibited piece has a description. A separate collection holds character jugs, which take the shape of people, famous buildings and everyday objects.
