About the museum
The painter Kunffy Lajos (1869–1962) lived and worked in the Classicist-style former Bosnyák manor house in Somogytúr. The house and his former studio, standing in the art park, are now a museum. Kunffy studied law and earned a doctorate in political science; at the same time he attended the Budapest College of Fine Arts, then studied and exhibited in Munich and Paris, where he also received the Knight’s Cross of the Legion of Honour. He settled permanently back home in 1913.
His paintings bring to life the Hungarian landscape and village people; his pictures of Roma from the surrounding area are famous. In the two buildings, a permanent memorial exhibition displays his 120 paintings, the original furniture and relics of the artist’s home. The museum is a venue of the Rippl-Rónai Múzeum (Rippl-Rónai Museum).
