About the museum
The Mindszentyneum is the newest institution of the Zalaegerszegi Múzeumok. It commemorates the activities of Cardinal Mindszenty József in Zalaegerszeg and his persecution under the communist dictatorship. The three-storey, award-winning building stands next to the Göcseji Múzeum.
The permanent exhibitions present the cardinal's life in the context of 20th-century Hungarian history, followed by the persecution of the church between 1945 and 1990, seen from an ecumenical perspective, in the form of the diary of a surviving church figure. The basement exhibition presents the medieval kilns uncovered before the construction and the remains of the old castle of Egerszeg. The building also houses a café, a museum shop, an escape room and conference rooms.
