About the museum
The two-storey townhouse that houses the museum was built around 1790 by the Karácsony family, of Greek origin; in the 19th century it passed into the possession of the Szaszaráth family, also prominent merchants of Tokaj. The house is richly decorated inside and out, and several of its rooms are adorned with valuable murals. The mixed-theme exhibition opened in the building on 22 May 1985. In 2016 a large part of the objects moved to the Világörökségi Bormúzeum (World Heritage Wine Museum), so the exhibitions could be renewed.
