About the museum
The building was constructed as a wine storehouse around 1790, commissioned by the Hungarian Royal Treasury. In the 19th century it came into the possession of the Israelite community of Tokaj; in 1874 a Jewish school and a ritual bath opened in it. In the years after the Second World War the school was converted into flats, and in the 1980s a ceramics workshop operated in the place of the bath. After a complete renovation it has welcomed visitors since 10 November 2015 as the Világörökségi Bormúzeum (World Heritage Wine Museum), over about 2,000 square metres.
