About the museum
The Bonyhád Fire Brigade Museum opened on 25 May 1985 in a 144 m² building of a former granary, with a 28 m² gallery, under the professional supervision and with the support of the museum in Budapest.
The permanent exhibition (“Beware of fire and water”) presents fire protection before the organised fire brigade, mainly the fire-fighting service of the guilds. On display are early fire-fighting equipment, a horse-drawn fire pump from the 1920s–30s, a sunken-tank fire pump from 1893 and a breathing apparatus. The gallery presents the history of the Bonyhád Volunteer Fire Brigade, founded in 1874.
