About the museum

Weöres Sándor was born in 1913 in Szombathely; he spent his childhood in Pápa and Csönge. In the parental home in Csönge the first memorial room opened in 1989, the year of the poet’s death, and in 2006 it took its present form.

The exhibition evokes the memory of the two poets with furniture, books, photographs, manuscripts and relics from the legacy of the poet couple. In the enclosed veranda corridor there are a biographical overview and travel photographs. In the first room the memories and documents of the Weöres family appear, in the second the poet’s intellectual connections and honours, in the third his former bedroom and study, and in the fourth the memory of Károlyi Amy. Visitors can also listen to serious music works written to poems by Weöres Sándor.

In the memorial park beside the building stands the life-size bronze bust of the poet, made by the sculptor Segesdi György for the 90th anniversary of Weöres Sándor’s birth.
