About the museum

The Albergo alla Corona in Montagnaga di Piné is one of the first buildings in Trentino designed specifically as a hotel. It opened in 1883 under Carlo Tommasini senior and his wife Luigia Froner, and operated until the end of 2002, run by three generations of the family. Among its best-known guests were Alcide De Gasperi and the Prince-Bishop of Trento, Eugenio Carlo Valussi.

The building, about 1,000 square metres across four floors, was built between 1883 and 1886 by the master builder Giovanni Maoro of Pergine. His son, the architect Eduino Maoro, completed the finishing work in 1926 and designed the wooden and marble furnishings of some of the rooms. The brightest rooms, overlooking the square in front of the sanctuary, were decorated with paintings by Alfredo Giuradelli, inspired by the journeys and the people who stayed here.

In 2007 the hotel became the Museo del Turismo Trentino, owned by the Municipality of Baselga di Piné. All the exhibits were donated by the Tommasini family. The bar, restaurant and bedrooms are furnished as they once were, with lighting, a piano, beds with period linen, a dressing table and stencilled decorations, as well as a collection of period photographs and documents.
