About the museum
The Antiquarium was established in the 1990s, in a building erected on land donated by the Municipality of Boscoreale, next to the archaeological area of Villa Regina, the only farmhouse villa (villa rustica) in the area open to the public. The itinerary, entitled “Man and the Environment in the Vesuvian Territory”, presents objects from the other villas in the area, which were reburied after excavation.
The display cases illustrate the lives of the owners and farm workers, with agricultural tools partly similar to those still in use today. Many finds from Boscoreale were removed in the past and dispersed among museums in Europe and America, which makes the collection kept on site particularly valuable.
The museum is part of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
