About the museum
The Antiquarium di Lucrezia Romana is part of the Parco archeologico dell'Appia Antica and is located in the south-eastern part of Rome. It holds the finds that have emerged over the last thirty years during excavations linked to the recent urban expansion of this sector of the city.
The museum occupies about 500 square metres in four rooms, marked with the letters A to D, spread across two buildings. The route illustrates the history of the Appio-Tuscolano area from prehistory to the Middle Ages.
The collection consists mainly of grave goods, including gold jewellery, earrings, vases, oil lamps and everyday objects, together with mosaics, coins, frescoes, glass, architectural terracottas of the Augustan age and marble pieces such as an alabaster basin and a statue of Hermaphroditus.
