About the museum
The museum was founded in 1966 on the initiative of Professor Salvatore Ferraro, after the many finds made in the Vico Equense area. A first home in the Sozi Carafa college was abandoned when the premises were taken over by the diocesan curia. After a temporary arrangement in the civic library, the collection found a home in the town hall on Corso Filangieri.
The display occupies three rooms and includes more than two hundred finds, largely from the Sorrento peninsula, discovered between the 1960s and 1970s: grave goods from an archaic necropolis with more than two hundred tombs, bucchero, Attic, Corinthian and Ionian pottery, bronze vessels, fibulae and the weapons of Italic peoples. Information panels illustrate the excavation campaigns.
