About the museum

The “San Giuseppe Marello” exhibition area is located at the Casa Madre of the Oblati di San Giuseppe, the congregation founded by Giuseppe Marello, a son of the Piedmontese land and especially of the Asti area, who later became a bishop. It was set up to answer the needs of those who visit the places of a saint today: not only to see relics, but to learn about the traces of his human, cultural and religious journey.

The route opens with a reception area, where the visitor or the leader of a group can choose and personalise the itinerary. The exhibition then presents Marello’s life, spirituality and work in five areas: the young Giuseppe Marello, Don Giuseppe the priest, the founder of the Oblati di San Giuseppe, the bishop, and the development of the congregation. The final part is devoted to the paintings of the Italo-Brazilian painter Sergio Ceron, which convey the present-day value of the saint’s message.

The exhibition area is next to the Santuario di San Giuseppe, built between 1927 and 1931 to a design by Mgr Alessandro Thea on the site of the old church of Sant’Agnese: in the central chapel on the left are venerated the remains of Saint Giuseppe Marello. To accompany the visit, the Oblates offer a guide to the exhibition area on request; donations support the running of the area and small social projects in the mission lands.
