About the museum
The Basilica di Santa Maria Novella is the great Dominican church of Florence. The complex was founded in the 13th century as a convent of the Dominican friars and preserves in its rooms the memory of that religious community. The visit is managed by the Opera di Santa Maria Novella.
A single entrance gives access to the basilica, the museum and the cloisters. The museum route includes the Chiostro dei Morti, the Chiostro Verde, the Cappella degli Spagnoli, the Cappella Ubriachi and the Refettorio, rooms of the convent that can be visited with a single ticket.
The basilica holds works of great importance and remains a place of worship, with regular liturgical celebrations. For this reason opening times and visiting arrangements may change on holidays, and during Holy Week the complex is open only for prayer.
