About the museum

Ferruccio Busoni, composer and pianist born in Empoli in 1866 and died in 1924, was one of the most important figures in music in the early 20th century. He wrote operas, orchestral works, piano pieces and lieder. The museum occupies the second floor of the house where he was born, in Piazza della Vittoria, and was opened by the Municipality of Empoli in 1961. On the ground floor is the Centro studi musicali “Ferruccio Busoni” (Ferruccio Busoni Centre for Musical Studies).

The rooms hold manuscripts, the original libretto of the opera “Die Brautwahl” (“The Bride Chosen by Lot”, 1907), autograph letters, more than a hundred period photographs, concert programmes, press articles and posters. A marble bust of the composer and a period piano that he used during his stays in Empoli are also on display.

The museum is part of the Empoli municipal museum system and offers free guided tours by reservation.
