About the museum
The museum was founded in 1989 by citizens of Albino who had come together in a voluntary association. Its aim is to enhance objects linked to work and local popular culture, in particular the rural life of the middle and lower Val Seriana.
It is located in Comenduno, in the building with the tower, an annex of the Villa Birolini Regina Pacis, now owned by the Comune of Albino. In the past, the landlord’s share of the produce of the Birolini sharecroppers, silk industrialists, was collected here.
The display occupies six rooms of the villa: on the ground floor, the cycle of maize and wheat up to flour; on the first floor, the spaces of a farmhouse with the equipment used in daily life; in the underground cellar, a typical cellar for wine, cured meats and dairy products; and other rooms document the crafts of shoemaker, clog-maker, carpenter, turner, blacksmith and tower-clock maker. A meeting room hosts video screenings on rural life.
The museum also includes the detached site of the Maglio Calvi, an old forge active until 1972, at Via del Maglio 8, used for events and visits by reservation.
