About the museum
The house on Via Sant'Anna in Catania is the second-floor apartment of a 19th-century building, where Giovanni Verga spent his childhood and lived for a long time; the writer died here in 1922. After the death of his heir, Giovannino Verga Patriarca, the apartment was bought by the Regione Siciliana (Sicilian Region), which opened it to the public as a house museum after restoration.
The rooms preserve furniture, books and objects that belonged to the writer, and offer an insight into the domestic setting in which many of his works were born.
The house is now managed by the Parco archeologico e paesaggistico di Catania e della Valle dell'Aci and, according to information published by the Park, is closed for maintenance work.
