About the museum
The museum is in the heart of Mandas’s historic centre, in via Sant’Antonio Abate. A portal leads to a spacious inner courtyard, sa pratza, where the small church of Sant’Antonio Abate has stood since the 13th century. The houses that belonged to the Marongiu and Landis families, dating from at least the late 19th century, overlook the courtyard.
The buildings have been renovated, keeping the local stone walls exposed and the wooden and reed roofs, and were inaugurated as a museum on 5 August 2005. The objects on display come from donations by citizens and document the agro-pastoral and craft activities of the Trexenta and neighbouring areas.
The route recreates the rooms of a farmhouse: the bedroom, the small kitchen, the oven room, the tool room, the loom room, the wine store, the workshops of mason, carpenter, shoemaker, barber and blacksmith, the portico and the brazier of the great Sant’Antonio bonfire. Every 16 January the courtyard hosts the bonfire dedicated to Sant’Antonio Abate.
