About the museum
Luigi Capuana, one of the leading exponents of verismo, was born in Mineo in 1839 into a well-off family of landowners. The house museum named after him is in a 19th-century noble townhouse in the Sicilian neoclassical style, the writer's home. It is run by the Municipality of Mineo together with the Biblioteca comunale “Luigi Capuana” (Luigi Capuana Municipal Library).
In the living rooms, including the alcove, the study and the library, are preserved noble furnishings, newspaper clippings, prints and photographs linked to the writer's youth, a smoking set, two etchings by Telemaco Signorini with views of old Florence, and a humorous cartoon by Ugo Fleres. Among the documents of historical interest is a letter of protest against the French occupation, linked to the Risorgimento uprisings.
The visit can be combined with that of the Museo della Memoria, within Mineo's network of city museums.
