About the museum
In the house at Vigolo Vattaro, Amabile Lucia Visintainer, the future Saint Paolina (Madre Paolina), was born. Here she lived with her parents and siblings before emigrating to Brazil with the family. Today the house, cared for by the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, the congregation she founded, is a place of pilgrimage, including for visitors from Brazil.
In Brazil, Paolina, together with some friends, looked after the needy and freed slaves, and founded a kindergarten, a novitiate and a spinning mill that provided work for local women. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 18 October 1991 in Florianópolis and canonised in Rome on 19 May 2002.
The birthplace preserves four restored rooms, including the room in which the saint was born; it is reached by going down to the basement floor. Visits take place on request, through the sisters.
