About the museum
The house was designed in 1962 by the architect Raoul Biancani for Renzo Savini (born in Bagnacavallo in 1931, died in 2018), a man of classical education who graduated in law in Bologna. The three-storey building alternates exposed brick, masonry, wood and large windows that bring light and the garden into the collection spaces.
From the 1960s onwards, together with his wife Nina de Beni, Savini gathered artworks, handcrafted objects and natural history specimens, especially stones, arranging them in displays conceived as true stagings. The collection recalls the Wunderkammern of the 16th and 17th centuries: antique and modern furniture supports toys, glass, sculptures and Renaissance fragments set into the walls.
Among the pieces are Baroque nativity figures by Giuseppe Maria Mazza and Giacomo De Maria, Rococo statues by Angelo Gabriello Piò, 18th-century Emilian terracottas, polychrome wooden sculptures, a large chandelier by Venini and a small Kunstkammer with crystal display cases. The house is now the seat of an association that manages visits and hosts events.
