About the museum
The birthplace of Antonio Rosmini overlooks the Corso Rosmini in Rovereto and is cared for by the Rosminian Fathers. In the palace Antonio Rosmini (1797–1855), the greatest thinker from Trentino, was born and lived. The rooms, which have remained almost intact, preserve books, furniture and works of art as evidence of the history of the Rosmini family and of the city, and offer a glimpse of the Enlightenment culture of 18th-century Rovereto, of which Rosmini was the most illustrious heir.
On a guided tour with the Rosminian Fathers you can visit the birth room, the Sala degli Specchi (Hall of Mirrors), the apartment of Ambrogio Rosmini and the family chapel. The historic heritage includes a rich library of about 15,000 volumes, an important picture gallery and a collection of old prints, gathered with passion by Ambrogio, an architect and collector, and by his nephew Antonio, a philosopher and bibliophile.
Since 1987, in some rooms overlooking Via Stoppani, the Biblioteca Rosminiana has also been based here. It was set up and opened to the public by the Rosminian Fathers to make known the figure, thought and work of their founder and to allow consultation of the historic heritage kept in the house (historic library, family archive, picture gallery and prints). The house is open to visits by appointment and takes part in initiatives such as the Rosmini Days.
