About the museum
The Rocca di Noceto stands in the centre of the village and was built at the behest of Oberto Pallavicino around the middle of the 13th century, after the emperor Frederick II had enfeoffed the place to him. Destroyed several times, it was rebuilt in the 14th century by the Sanvitale counts; in the 15th century Pier Maria Rossi had some parts rebuilt, giving the castle its present appearance. In the 17th century it passed half to the Farnese and half to the Sanvitale, who held it until the abolition of the feudal system in 1805. The central keep and the outer walls are the original parts; inside there is a garden.
Today the castle is known as the Castello della Musica. The Museo del Disco holds the bequest of the sports journalist Bruno Slawitz from Noceto, a collection of 78 and 33 rpm records mainly with concert and operatic themes, presented in a renewed route with computer listening stations. The Museo della Liuteria displays the collection of bowed and plucked instruments made by the master Renato Scrollavezza and by members of the Liuteria Parmense.
In the Sala Rossellini films are screened, including an educational video on the stages of making bowed instruments. From the floor one climbs to the tower, home of the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria “Renato Scrollavezza”, founded in 1975 at the Conservatorio Boito in Parma: the workshop at the top of the tower offers a 360° view over the surrounding area.
