About the museum
The Centro della comunicazione audiovisiva grew out of the collection of Oreste Coni, donated to the Comune di Gazzuolo and turned into a multimedia centre devoted to the history of photography and cinema. It is housed in the village’s cultural centre, in Via Roma, next to the Teatro Giacometti and the municipal library, under a 16th-century portico in the Gonzaga style, the work of Bertazzolo.
The collection brings together cameras and movie cameras documenting the evolution of the technology from the 1920s to today. The display is divided into two sections: the first presents cameras and movie cameras along a route with panels on the origins of photography and early cinema; the second is devoted to projectors and to the workshop, regarded as the heart of the centre, where visitors can get close to audiovisual, documentary, photographic, directing and editing techniques.
The centre hosts cultural events and works with the library, with local schools and with schools in the province of Mantua.
