About the museum
The museum was founded in May 2002 in the upper battery of Forte Wohlgemuth at Rivoli Veronese, with three rooms, to which two more were added in spring 2004. The rooms were former ammunition stores with barrel vaults, linked by vaulted passages. In 2005 the display was dedicated to Walter Rama, who had collected the objects together with his father and brother.
The collection grew out of First World War finds that members came across while retracing the mountain paths used by the soldiers. The Associazione Museale Walter Rama, based in Domegliara (Verona), was founded in 2010 to preserve it. In 2017 the experience at Forte Wohlgemuth came to an end, and since 2019 the collection has been on display in Forte Magnaguti, in Borgoforte, in the municipality of Borgo Virgilio (Mantua).
The route includes the section “La Grande Guerra” (The Great War), with the parts “Cari ricordi” (Dear memories) and “Noi c’eravamo” (We were there), the archive of the Arena di Verona, the data archive dedicated to Cesare Maria De Vecchi and the section “La PM5 – Posta Militare” (PM5 military post). Among the museum’s activities are the restoration of an L3 tank and the construction of an SVA aircraft.
