About the museum
The collection is in the medieval village of Castel Focognano, whose castle is first mentioned in 1028, and is part of the network of the Ecomuseo del Casentino. The village was for a long time the seat of the Florentine Podestà, until in 1778 Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo moved the administrative seat to Rassina.
The small collection was created towards the end of the 1990s with the contribution of local families, to preserve the memory of the work and everyday objects typical of the area. It is organised by production cycles: the grain cycle and woodcutting, herding and transhumance with tools for processing milk and shearing, and domestic wool work, from carding and spinning to warping and weaving.
According to the Ecomuseo del Casentino, the venue is temporarily closed pending a new display. In the village you can see the watch tower, the remains of the castle and the 15th-century Loggia del Podestà with numerous stone coats of arms.
