About the museum
The Cogne visitor centre, in the Villaggio Minatori (miners’ village), presents itself as a workshop where visitors can understand environmental events, get to know the natural environment and the land-management choices made by the park authority. It is run in collaboration with the Fondation Grand Paradis.
The route uses explanatory models, multimedia systems, interactive games and a sensory area with natural scents and forest sounds. The themes are water, with its effects on the land and floods; the forest and pasture, with a simulation of forest-management choices; and the relationship between humans and wildlife.
The displays include two immersive areas dedicated to the wolf and the ibex, with stuffed specimens; two bone-conduction stations (osteofonia) that let visitors “hear” through the body the sounds of glaciers and avalanches and the calls of animals; virtual reality experiences with views of the summit of the Gran Paradiso and the Casimiro via ferrata; and an information point of the Alpine Convention (Convenzione delle Alpi).
