About the museum

The centre was opened on 17 May 2009 in the former school of Rovenaud, a hamlet of Valsavarenche, where Émile Chanoux was born in 1906. Chanoux, a champion of Valdostan autonomy, was arrested and died in 1944; alongside him the centre remembers Federico Chabod, a historian of international renown and first president of the autonomous Region.

Its aim is to preserve and make known the cultural heritage left by the two figures, in particular their reflection on federalism and Europe. The route includes an anthology of original writings by Chanoux and multimedia stations on the contribution of other Valdostan authors to the debate on federalism and a new Europe, among them Chabod, Bréan and Caveri.
