About the museum
The Collezione Borsari 1870 tells the story of the perfume company founded in Parma in 1870 by Lodovico Borsari, active in the field of essences and perfumes. It is described as the first Italian museum dedicated to perfumery.
The collection is housed in the building erected in the 1930s as the offices of the Borsari plant, which stands behind it. It includes work tools, equipment for distilling essences and materials relating to the preparation of the products and to the study of their image, from 1870 up to the mid-20th century.
The route offers a window onto the history of social customs, graphic design and advertising up to the first half of the 20th century, and is completed by the original furnishings of Lodovico Borsari’s chemistry laboratory: the workbench with its instruments, the small bottles of base essences and the metal storage containers.
