About the museum
Villa Badessa is a hamlet of Rosciano founded by Greek-Albanian refugees who arrived in Abruzzo in 1743; it is the only Arbëreshë community in the region and maintains the Greek-Byzantine rite. The church of Santa Maria Assunta houses the icon of the Odigitria, brought from Epirus by the founders.
The church holds a rich collection of 77 Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons, the subject of a catalogue published by the municipal administration. In the hamlet there is also a small civic museum dedicated to Albanian cultural traditions and the Greek-Byzantine rite.
