About the museum
The Nigelli Collection stems from the passion for mechanics of Bruno Nigelli, an entrepreneur in the sector, and is located at San Martino in Casola, in the municipality of Monte San Pietro, at the NIFO company. It gathers historic motorcycles with the aim of preserving the memory of motorcycle production in Bologna, which in the 20th century counted more than 85 manufacturers.
The core consists of over one hundred motorcycles built between 1920 and 1970, in many cases unique examples, with particular attention to brands founded in the Bologna area; it also includes some high-quality foreign models. Among the best-known pieces are the Morini 250 twin-cam with which Tarquinio Provini achieved important results, a Ducati 750 that belonged to Walter Villa and a Mondial 250 twin-cam.
The collection also includes some 250 motorcycle engines, Italian and foreign, and a series of more than one hundred acoustic signalling devices, from the first hand-operated horns to air-raid sirens, as well as a large brass cylinder from the training ship Orsa of the Marina Militare (Italian Navy), whose sound carries 15 km out to sea. The collection is part of the regional Motor Valley circuit.
