About the museum
Ca’ la Ghironda grew out of an almost abandoned farmland that, until the mid-1980s, was covered in fields and very little vegetation. For about twenty-five years the sculptor Francesco Martani turned the site into a conceptual work of art, shaping the park, the vegetation and the aesthetic design of the museum complex.
Over time the complex opened to the public as a ModernArtMuseum and as a “village for art”: an outdoor sculpture park of about ten hectares, a botanical garden with more than 25,000 plants, the museum with its permanent collection, the Spazio-Atelier for proposals by emerging and established artists, a conference centre, an educational section and an events section.
The museum, at the centre of the site, is laid out in four exhibition rooms and an entrance courtyard. Works from the permanent collection are displayed on a rotating basis, according to a programme set at the start of each season. The complex also includes the Ghironda Resort, with 49 mini-apartments, and the Ristorante Giocondo.
