About the museum
The art collections of Fondazione Cariparma are among the most significant cultural heritage of the Parma area and are housed in the Palazzo Bossi Bocchi. They derive from acquisitions by the Cassa di Risparmio (savings bank) and later by the Foundation, which promoted a form of collecting aimed at preserving local memory, and have been enriched by numerous donations.
Among the works stand out a pen self-portrait by Parmigianino, a Caravaggesque canvas by Lanfranco, Farnese and Bourbon portraits, still lifes by Boselli and the 19th-century cycle by Giambattista Borghesi. Four holdings are considered particularly important: the Renato Bruson Collection with Italian 19th-century art, the Mingardi donation with artists' books, the banknote fund and the photographic archive of Carlo Bavagnoli. The Garbarino donations, with a core of majolica, and the Cozza donation, with Flemish artists, are also important.
The Foundation also promotes the Connessioni project, through which some of the works kept in the palazzo are taken to museums and other places across the territory.
