About the museum
The museum collection originates from the donation to the municipality of Pontestura by the painter Enrico Colombotto Rosso (Turin 1925 – Casale Monferrato 2013), who left part of his artistic heritage to several municipalities in the Monferrato, as a sign of his bond with this area. In Pontestura the artist entrusted some 150 works and part of his collection of dolls and toys.
The exhibition opened in 2002 and includes more than a hundred works by the artist – paintings, drawings, ink works and woodcuts; over time it has been enriched with new elements. In 2018 the municipality had the works restored and, in 2020, nine ink works and nine woodcuts. The rooms are spread across several parts of the Palazzo Municipale.
Colombotto Rosso also worked for the theatre, designing sets and costumes. The doll collection, including several Pinocchios in rubber, plastic and fabric, reflects his taste for collecting and for play. For the tenth anniversary of his death, a networked project was launched, “Pontestura, Camino, Conzano e Villanova Monferrato: i paesi del cuore di Colombotto”, with a travelling exhibition in the places that received his donations.
