About the museum
The Dinamitificio Nobel is one of the most important examples of early 20th-century industrial architecture in the Valle di Susa and was one of the first factories in Avigliana. It was founded by five Parisian bankers together with Alfred Nobel’s company in Hamburg and completed in 1873; it produced dynamite under the Nobel patent.
In 1908 the Nobel company bought further land from the Cravotto family in order to produce new types of powder. The plant then switched to paint production under a DuPont patent and finally became part of the Montecatini group. During the Second World War the area was bombed and affected by partisan actions. Production ceased in the sixties, and the area was later converted into an integrated industrial development hub.
Today the monumental remains of the complex can be seen. According to the tourist office, the site is closed for restoration work and may be opened for events.
