About the museum
The Ecomuseo della Cultura della Lavorazione della Canapa is located in the San Bernardo hamlet of Carmagnola and passes on the history and culture of processing hemp fibre, one of the oldest craft activities in the Carmagnola area. The museum offers practical demonstrations and an exhibition of tools.
The setting is a long shed: it is the last true sentè — the long, narrow covered area where fibres were worked and ropes were made — dating from 1905 and still preserved in the hamlet. Here the knowledge linked to hemp and the technique of making rope are kept and explained.
The ecomuseum is part of the Carmagnolamusei system, which brings together the city’s main museums, and is run with the help of the Associazione Museinsieme. A virtual tour is also available.
