About the museum
The exhibition grew out of the donation of stage costumes made by Beatrice Minori, a seamstress from Serrone who worked for RAI and was a personal collaborator of Eduardo De Filippo and of leading Italian directors. The museum opened in 2004 thanks to the donation of a costume workshop in Rome and is presented as the only exhibition of its kind in Lazio.
The costumes, more than forty in total, are displayed on mannequins in two rooms in chronological order: the first room shows Renaissance, Baroque and eighteenth-century garments, the second those of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Some of them were worn on stage by actors such as Eduardo De Filippo and Vittorio Gassman.
Each costume is accompanied by a caption giving the title of the work, the author, the costume designer, the performer and the year of production, so that the route offers an introduction to the history of Italian theatre, from Machiavelli and Goldoni to Shakespeare and Pirandello.
