About the museum
The Farie Geretti – “fucina” (forge) in Friulian – belongs to the tradition of family-run craft workshops, where the secrets of the trade were handed down from father to son. Antonio Geretti (Cividale del Friuli 1904–1982) inherited the business from his father Pietro and refined his skill by attending the Scuola di Arti e Mestieri of the Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso ed Istruzione of Cividale.
The workshop preserves its tools, many of them customised by Antonio himself, suited to every stage of the work, from conception to realisation: preparatory drawings, hammers, punches, chisels, fire tongs, anvils, plaster casts and samples of works in iron and copper. The smith made tools for domestic and agricultural use, elements for houses and artistic objects in copper and brass.
Today the forge is open to the public thanks to the Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso ed Istruzione of Cividale and the Comune, in agreement with the heirs. The spaces can be visited by booking.
