Foundation beneath the ruins of Castel Rafenstein in Bolzano, with the private collection of conceptual and minimal art and Arte Povera; free admission.
Sixty years after the New York exhibition “Primary Structures” of 1966, the project investigates the legacy of minimalism in contemporary art. The show includes works from the foundation's collection, among them Carl Andre, Dan Flavin and James Turrell.
About the museum
Antonio Dalle Nogare’s private collection began in the mid-1980s and focuses on conceptual and minimal art of the second half of the 20th century, with an important core of Arte Povera. The Foundation presents it in Bolzano, in a building beneath the ruins of Castel Rafenstein, designed by W. Angonese and A. Marastoni and partly clad in local porphyry.
The artists represented include Carl Andre, Robert Barry, Dan Graham, Joseph Kosuth, Richard Long, Piero Manzoni and James Turrell, as well as leading figures of Arte Povera such as Giovanni Anselmo, Luciano Fabro, Jannis Kounellis and Giuseppe Penone. The building also contains site-specific works by Robert Barry and Dan Graham. The collection is being expanded with works by contemporary artists, shown in dialogue with established masters.
The Foundation promotes contemporary art as a means of reading social change and as a space for dialogue between art, architecture and research. Its programme, bilingual in German and Italian, includes artist residencies and events.
