About the museum
The Fondazione Giuseppe Mozzanica was established in 2007 in Pagnano, a hamlet of Merate, to preserve and promote the work of the sculptor and painter Giuseppe Mozzanica. Since 2008 its cultural activities have been run in collaboration with the social cooperative ABCittà.
The venue, at Vicolo Chiuso 5, includes the artist's living and working spaces. The plaster cast gallery was built by Mozzanica in 1959, and he kept his plasters there until his death: they were the first step towards the finished works in bronze and marble. The museum complex, about 800 square metres, part of which is open to the public, was inaugurated on 25 May 2014.
The collection includes plasters, bronzes, three marble works, paintings (portraits, landscapes and still lifes) and bronze heads. One section is dedicated to materials and techniques, with the tools the sculptor built or used, casts, sketches and sectioned statues.
