Contemporary art museum in a former slaughterhouse by the sea, dedicated to Pino Pascali, with works by the artist, by Apulian artists and by winners of the Premio Pascali.
Solo exhibition by Attilio Solzi, curated by Michele Spinelli: for the first time the project The Absence is shown in its entirety, 365 photographs taken over one year along the Paullese road, with a video room and the artist's book.
Marking ninety years since Pascali's birth, the exhibition traces his path from his studies to sculpture, with a reconstruction of his studio, his advertising and RAI work and documents about his exhibitions in Rome and Paris.
About the museum
The Museo Pino Pascali was founded in 1998 in Polignano a Mare, the artist's home town, following a major bequest from the family of works and memorabilia by Pino Pascali, one of the leading figures of Italian and international art in the 1960s, who died in Rome at just 33. In 2010 the museum became the Fondazione Pino Pascali, jointly supported by Apulia Region and the Municipality of Polignano a Mare, and in 2013 it received recognition as the best contemporary art foundation in Italy.
The venue is a restored former municipal slaughterhouse, perched above the sea, which the foundation describes as the seaside house the artist had wished for. The collection includes a substantial group of works by Pascali, significant works by Apulian artists and works by the winners of the Premio Pino Pascali, awarded every year to a contemporary artist.
The institution is organised by “containers”, with the aim of offering a broad view of art in line with avant-garde research: alongside the permanent collection it presents temporary exhibitions, events and activities devoted to the artist's archive.
