About the museum
The Museo diocesano di Monopoli is next to the cathedral, in the former Episcopal Seminary, on Via Cattedrale. It holds sacred art from the churches of the Diocese of Monopoli: paintings, icons, miniatures, manuscripts, liturgical vestments and silverware.
Among the most precious pieces are a Byzantine staurotheca in gilded silver and enamel, an ancient nautical chart and a wooden polyptych signed by Campsa and Di Malines. The painting collection includes a Saint Jerome by Bastiani and paintings attributed to Veronese, Palma il Giovane and other regional artists.
The museum’s official website is currently under construction; the opening times and prices available come from museum portals, so it is advisable to check them before visiting.
