About the museum
The gallery occupies the upper floor of the Castello Conti Acquaviva d'Aragona in Conversano and is named after the Apulian painter Francesco Netti (Santeramo in Colle, 1832–1894). His works, gathered in the family collection by Nicola Accolti Gil Vitale, were donated to the municipality.
In Netti's paintings one recognises the luminous depiction of urban landscapes and attention to nature and light effects. Among the masterpieces are “Le ricamatrici levantine” and “Ragazza assopita”. The collection also includes works by artists of his time, such as Alfio Tomaselli, Beniamino Bianco and Carpanini.
The castle, built on the Peucetian megalithic walls of Norba, was reworked around 1400 by the Acquaviva d'Aragona family, lords of the County of Conversano for about four centuries.
